Competition Rules

Competition Entry Forms

Monthly Club Competition
The monthly Club competition runs from January to November each year with the exception of February when there is a separate competition for the Reg Bailey Cup. December is reserved for a ‘Ladies’ Choice’ competition.

The competition is theme based.

The Committee will determine the subjects for each competition and announce these in advance to the members.

There are three categories: Novice, Intermediate and Advanced
The annual winner in each category will be the member with the highest number of accumulated points throughout the year.

The annual winner of each category will be awarded with a platter, on which their name will be engraved.

The platter will be presented at the December (Christmas Party) meeting.
The members awarded platters will hold them until the following year.
A cup will be awarded to the member who has achieved the highest number of points in the year in any of the three categories.

Competition Entry
The Competition is open to all current paid-up members of the Club.
Members must register their entry with the Competition Adjudicator at the start of the monthly meeting.

All entries will be anonymous and be identified only by a consecutive number card issued by the Adjudicator at time of registration.
All entries must be the original work of the member.
No entry may be submitted twice, whether in a different category or in a subsequent year.

Categories
The winner in each of the categories will receive a certificate.
Certificates will be presented on the night.

The annual category winner and members with an annual total of 25 points or more will be promoted to the next higher category.

Members may elect to compete in the next higher category at any time, but points already accrued in the current year will be surrendered.

At the end of the competition year, regardless of points awarded, a member may be put into the next highest category, on merit, at the discretion of the Adjudicator and the Committee.

Judging
Two judges for each competition will be picked from an invited pool of advanced and intermediate turners. One judge must be of advanced level.
There will be a reasonably wide interpretation of the theme. However if the entry patently does not meet the brief of the competition (e.g. a size is specified which it does not meet) then it will be disqualified on the grounds of fairness.

Points System
Competition points will be awarded in each category as follows:
1st – 6 points
2nd – 4 points
3rd – 2 points
Un-placed – 1 point.

A running total of the number of points each member has accumulated will be published on the KVWT website every month showing their progression.

All points will be reset to zero in January.
